Despite there being enough stock of water in damns and reservoirs, residents and industrial units are still going to have to brace themselves for a 24 hr water cut in Navi Mumbai.
Due to some emergency repair work in Barvi dam’s main pipeline, the MIDC has enforced a 24-hour shutdown of water supply. The main pipeline runs from Badlapur to Mira-Bhayander via Navi Mumbai and Thane
According to an MIDC official, the affected areas will be Kalwa, Mumbra, Vitawa and Wagle Estate industrial zone in Thane city and the most affected areas will be on Navi Mumbai side like Airoli, gaothan areas and slum pockets of Turbhe, Nerul, Koparkhairane, Ghansoli and Digha.
Even parts of Cidco nodes in south Navi Mumbai and Panvel along with Taloja MIDC and Trans-Thane Creek industrial area will also face shortage of water. Consumers will get low-pressure supply on Saturday and Sunday as well.
The work that’s taking place is for replacing 1,590 mm main line at Mahape and enroute areas. According to Avinash MAli, MDC deputy engineer, the water supply is expected to be restored By Friday midnight but low pressure will still follow for a few hours.
