Add These Kitchen Ingredients In Your Beauty Regime

Hidden away in your cupboards and fridges are enormous resources of natural beauty ingredients that could suddenly transform your skin and hair.

So let us see how you can add them to your beauty regime. And the best thing is, they are completely chemical free and won’t tug on your purse strings. The average women spend thousands of rupees on expensive store-bought products when everything she needs are probably already sitting in her kitchen cabinets. So, read on, and you will find wonderful beauty products right in your kitchen.

1) Cucumber:

Cucumber is a natural toner and skin lightener. It is a wonderful summer soother. It is used as a soothing astringent lotion to cleanse the skin. Mince cucumber and massage on your skin to reduce freckles, smooth wrinkles, bleach the skin and soften your hands. Refrigerated cucumber slices can be placed on tired eyes. Grated cucumber and lemon juice mixed with 2 tsp of fuller’s earth makes a wonderful anti tan pack.

2) Lemon:

Lemons have a natural bleaching effect on the skin. Sugar and lemon rubbed on the skin can lighten the darkest of skins. Lemon is also a wonderful natural hair conditioner. In a glass of strained tea water, add the juice of one lemon. Use it after shampoo rinse to add bounce and shine to dull, limp looking hair. Rub half a lemon on your nails daily and watch the pinkish natural color and shine return for those having yellowish nails. Dry lemon peels and grind it. Mix with almond powder and whole wheat flour to make an effective face and body scrub.

3) Almonds:

Usage of almonds both externally and internally shows a very effective result as they have an extremely high content of vitamin E. Almond powder mixed with milk and oatmeal makes a face mask and exfoliator for dry skin. Almond paste mixed with grated potatoes and applied as an eye mask removes dark circles. You can also take a tsp of almond oil with warm milk to nourish the body internally.

4) Papaya:

Frozen mashed papaya applied on the skin is an excellent soother for sunburnt skin. Papaya eaten at night is an excellent laxative and cleans the stomach. If you regularly massage the skin with mashed papaya you will find that your skin has become very light and clear as papaya contains certain enzymes which help to soften and lighten the skin.

5) Tomatoes:

Tomatoes help to reduce excess oiliness on the skin as they are acidic in nature. Regular use of tomato halves rubbed on the skin helps reduce open pores and clean the greasiest of skins. Because of the high content of Vitamin C and potassium, they also help reduce blackheads and nourish the skin externally.

6) Potatoes:

Raw cold potato slices soothe the eyes and reduce the dark circles. Raw potato on the skin is an excellent remedy to remove blemishes. Potato has a high content of starch, so it is an excellent skin tightener and when rubbed on dry skin acts as a toner. Mix grated raw potato with lemon juice, oatmeal, fuller’s earth and milk to make an excellent cleansing mask.

7) Eggs:

Nourish your fine lines around the eyes with the white of an egg, leave it to dry completely and then wash off with ice water. If you do this regularly every alternate day you will find the fine lines reducing within the very first month. If you mix with masoor dal and milk and apply on the face, it leaves the skin tightened and toned. This also reduces blemishes.

Whip two eggs with 1tsp each of amla, reetha and shikakai powder and apply on your scalp. Shampoo after half hour. This acts as a wonderful hair conditioner.

When you mix henna with egg and apply on the hair, it conditions as well as give your body, bounce and shine.

8) Baking soda:

We all have baking soda in our kitchen. You can mix baking soda with honey and olive oil to make a facial scrub. You can add it to your regular shampoo to create an antidandruff shampoo. You can whiten your teeth with soda.

9) Olive oil:

The beauty benefits of olive oil have been known from centuries. Olive oil can be used as a hot oil treatment to bring the shine on your hair.

It acts as a  moisturizer to rehydrate the skin, a make up remover and is a very good remedy for dry, cracked heels.

It is pretty good drizzled on a salad too.

10) Strawberries:

Strawberries too have many beauty benefits. Mashed strawberries make a great exfoliator. If you add a pinch of soda to mashed strawberries, it can be used to whiten the teeth.

Rubbed gently onto sunburnt skin,strawberries will soothe the pain and help the skin to heal too.
