The EOW (Economic Offences Wing) arrested a builder from Nerul for allegedly misleading and cheating a woman who wanted to buy a home. The accused charged her Rs.1.15 crores as the booking amount of three flats in his residential project at Taloja. Turns out that the builder sold them off to another buyer.
“In 2013, the complainant, Sapna Thapar, a resident of Jogeshwari had booked three flats collectively worth Rs 1.15 crore in the proposed Siddhivinayak Apartment project in Navada, Taloja. This residential project was being constructed by the accused builder and proprietor Madan Kolambekar (50) of Deva Realtors. Thapar had paid in cash to Kolambekar who booked three flats in her name.” said Senior police official Shivaji Awate.
Kolambekar even did the registration of the flats after receiving the payments. However, after the project reached completion, the buyer(Thapar) found out that the three flats were already sold off to a business partner, who sold it of to another buyer.
When Kolambekar didn’t give her possessions of her booked flats nor refunded her money, she filed a complaint against him at Nerul Police station.
The EOW started the investigation upon receiving the FIR. Awte said “As Kolambekar was absconding, we laid a trap for him for eight days near his Nerul house. We finally nabbed him on Saturday. He has been remanded in police custody till December 22,”
This is not the first time that the builder has committed a fraudulent act. There is another case filed against him which was also being investigated by the EOW.
