Panvel’s municipal commissioner, Sudhakar Shinde, along with 2 of his deputies – Sandhya Bhavankule and Jamir Lengarekar have received a letter, which says that their life would come under danger if they continue to run the civic administration in the manner it is being run.
Soon after this letter was received by Shinde, he forwarded it to the chief of the police. Ever since Shinde tightened the noose on encroachments and illegal hawking, he has been subjected to politician’s crosshairs.
It is believed that many corporators were miffed as Shinde was carrying out the work of development by using his discretionary powers to sanction projects that were less than Rs 25 lakh which leaves them with zero scope of interference. The letter also refers to the fact that corporators have shelled out a lot of money to win the civic elections, but are unable to reap anything out of it.
The letter clearly mentions that atrocity cases will be filed against all three of them and will be killed if they fail to restrict themselves from the autocratic manner of functioning. DCP Rajendra Mane clarified that he got to know about the letter of threat via social media. He said, “We have not got a copy nor any complaint.”
“Once we get the letter, we will consider beefing up their security.” Although, Vinod Chavan, the senior inspector of Panvel City police station stated that Shinde has already informed about it to the police chief by writing to them. He also said, “An inspector-rank officer has been told to probe.”
