The nation received the most terrifying Bollywood news of the sudden demise of ‘Sridevi’ on 24th February 2018. Bollywood lost their most versatile superstar while, the people outside the entertainment industry lost their favorite star and a role model. The crowd chaos outside her residence, Green Acres, Mumbai reflects that the country has lost a precious gem.
Sridevi started her acting career at the age of 4 and since then there was no looking back. In her teenage years, she starred as a female lead in a Tamil movie, “Moondru Mudichu” opposite Rajnikanth and Kamal Hassan. Later, she went on to do 20 films with Kamal Hasan.
In 1976, Sridevi made her Bollywood debut with the movie ‘Solwa Savan’ but, it was ‘Himmatwala’ in 1983 that gave her huge recognition in the industry. Her phenomenal acting made her Indian’s first female superstar. She was the only actress to charge Rs.1 Crores in the 90’s male-dominated film industry. Her strong presence on screen gave her the nickname, ‘Lady Bachchan of Bollywood’. She was the only actress of Bollywood who has played lead opposite the actors from 60’s, 70’s, 80’s and 90’s.
Sridevi married the veteran film producer Boney Kapoor in 1996. Later, after the release of ‘Judaai’ (1997) she took a break from the Bollywood industry to look after her family. Sridevi’s stylish public appearances made it very clear that the reel beauty was a sensational diva in real life.
The diva took her last breath on 24th February 2018 in Dubai where she went to attend a family wedding. The forensic reports say that Sridevi died from accidental drowning. Her mortal remains were brought back to the country on 28th February 2018 at night. The Sridevi funeral will take place at S. V. Road in Vile Parle West at around 3.30 pm where thousands would gather to bid a final goodbye to the queen. Our heart goes out to her family and the entire nation who was connected to her via her movies.
