Navi Mumbai: It has been over four years since the construction of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Bhawan in Airoli started and now the project is set to be inaugurated on Wednesday.
The mayor has invited our honorable Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and NCP leader Sharad Pawar along with the minister of Social Justice and Empowerment Ramdas Athavale for this event.
The dome structure atop the Bhavan and incompetence on the part of the contractor executing the project are among the major reasons that the structure took almost eight years to complete and the civic administration has spent nearly Rs 40 crore on the structure. The original expenditure was estimated was for Rs 12 crore.
While some part of the project is yet to be completed. According to outgoing mayor Sudhakar Sonawane, the early inauguration is the result of a collective decision of the general body. The new mayor is to be elected on November 7.
“The House is aware of my efforts for getting this building constructed and today as the structure is ready it was considered ideal to conduct the inauguration after the successful completion of the first phase of the project,” the mayor said.
The work that is to be completed includes laying of the marble cladding, flooring, false ceiling, installing modular furniture and decorative lighting.
“As of now, we want the confirmation from the CM’s office about him attending the event. We are, however, working towards inaugurating the completion of the first phase,” said municipal commissioner Dr. N Ramaswami.
On the day of the inauguration, an autobiography of mayor Sudhakar Sonawane, A book highlighting the hardships and efforts endured by the mayor is to be revealed.
