First Ever National Samosa Week To Be Celebrated In England

We all South Asians know what this divine, delectable, palate arouser is:

And we all South Asians know that this is the best god darn invention and for this, we have the Central Asians to thank for introducing us to this beautiful lip-smacking dish.

Tell me this is not the most satisfying thing ever:

Looks like the love for India’s favorite snack has spread overseas. It’s not so surprising if you ask me (a passionate samosa lover), for samosa is hands down one of the best food in the world. Any reason to have a samosa is valid, when you’re voraciously hungry, looking for comfort in the form of food, mini celebrations, big celebrations, seriously, any reason is an acceptable one to gorge on a delicious samosa.

The love for samosa is about to be celebrated on the royal soil of England, thanks to the organizers of Leicester Curry Awards. For the first time ever, there will be a National Samosa Week that will be celebrated in Leicester. Till before this particular delicious concept, there were many other dishes that had their own day or week like pie, burger, chocolates, etc.. And now, our very own desi (ok, not very desi) samosa is going to score itself a week in the foreign land.

The reason behind this event is to raise awareness about South Asian food and culture. The event will take place between 9th and 13th April on Halford Street where fresh and delicious samosas will be up for sale. The organizers are inviting people to sell their homemade or shop-bought samosas. The money that’ll be raised from the event will go to local charities.

Romail Gulzar, one of the event organizers, said, “We want to encourage people all over the UK to buy or make their own samosas this week and sell them at work to raise funds for our nominated charities. If you’re feeling competitive, you could offer a prize for the best samosas. We think this could be the start of something really popular.”

For those who may not know, samosa is a fried Indian street food that made of dough and stuffing various kinds. The most popular and preferred stuffing is spiced potatoes. Other stuffing ingredients also include other veggies like onions, peas, carrot, and meat.
