Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) is set to arrange seats for 35,000 pupils of civic schools to watch upcoming Under-17 FIFA World Cup matches live at Nerul. In what can be derived as a rare opportunity, the civic administration will place its own conveyance to ferry students, who are subject to availability of the seats during the scheduled eight matches hosted by the city.
All the 35,000 students will get the chance to watch at least 1 of the 8 matches, as stated by NMMC commissioner, N Ramaswami. “FIFA organizers have agreed to allow our students to be part of the mega event,” added the civic chief.
Students will include pupils from 68 primary schools and 17 secondary schools, that are operated at 45 locations under 8 wards by the civic administration from Digha to CBD. The civic official body is coordinating with the event organizers to check the number of unsold seats match-wise, to accommodate the 55,000-capacity world-class stadium at Nerul. Students will get to see the matches on the rotational basis from close quarters.
“Till date, over 38,000 tickets have been sold for the opening day game on October 6. By Wednesday, we will get a clearer picture and will accommodate as many students as possible,” said Ramaswami.
