Move on from cricket and brace up for some football frenzy in your own satellite city! Navi Mumbai is finally giving a heads up to all the soccer fans this season to expect more from Indian football in the coming years.
With FIFA under-17 World Cup just around the corner, Navi Mumbai is ready to host 8 games on its recently developed and FIFA-approved 4 natural grass turfs. And, the credit goes to Dr. DY Patil Sports Academy!
Being one of the six football match venues in the country, Dr. DY Patil Stadium in Nerul will observe eight matches, including a showpiece semi before the last leg of the game. Groundworks to develop a world-class practice turf kick-started from last winter itself by planting Bermuda grass roots from the US.
Two other sites are Navi Mumbai Sports Association (NMSA) at Vashi and Yashwantrao Chavan Maidan of Navi Mumbai Corporation (NMMC) at Nerul. In fact, all 4 practice grounds share the vicinity of the main match venue with two practice turfs on either side.
Football fans in the megacity will witness the official FIFA under-17 World Cup action even before the inauguration match kickstarts on October 6, 2017.
While the city gears up for the footie tussle, fans must be excited to see their wonder- boy and Flamengo sensation (Brazilian footballer Vinicus Junior) live at the Mumbai Football Arena that kicks off from September 26 to October 2, 2017.
