Navi Mumbai to have national level sports events after the success of Under -17 FIFA World Cup

The successful run of the Under-17 FIFA World Cup has made way for the future occurrence more prestigious sports events in Navi Mumbai. The infrastructure that was set up for the FIFA tournament will be again put to good use. In the future, more national level sports competitions will be held in the city.

It’s an honorable moment for Navi Mumbai as the city is been chosen by the Directorate of Sports and Youth Services of Maharashtra for the national level football tournament being organized by the School Games Federation of India (SGFI). Five grounds have been shortlisted for the matches.

“It’s good news for football aficionados. The world-class facilities developed during the junior World Cup have attracted organizers to host such a prestigious football events in Navi Mumbai. The city has tremendous potential to promote the growth of football and young footballers in the region,” said Sunil Poojari, a football promoter.

There’ll be over 1000 players representing various states who be participating in the National School Games competition. There have been over 28 men’s and women’ contingents to compete for the national title in the under-19 group.

According to NB Mote, deputy director of directorate of sports and youth services, “We do organize national level school games events every year under Mumbai division and this year we have been entrusted with the responsibility of organizing the under-19 football tournament. Being one of the host cities and only one in Maharashtra for last October’s FIFA event, we have zeroed in on Navi Mumbai where this kind of national event could be arranged without any hurdles. In the entire Mumbai metropolitan region, we have not found any venue like the one in Navi Mumbai which has been designed for footballers.”
