This good news’ timing could not be better. Just 14 months after the formation of the civic body, Panvel City Municipal Corporation (PCMC) declared Panvel as an open defecation free city.
Though the city was declared open defecation free last year in August, the recent visit of the central government’s validation team to the city gave them the official final stamp of approval of the same.
This fruitful moment has lots relentless efforts of 10 months behind it. The PCMC worked hard to make it to the list ODF cities. Community toilets were made, mobile toilets were procured, and awareness was raised.
Sandhya Bawankule, deputy municipal commissioner said “Our efforts have paid off. Setting up more toilets and keeping a tab on open defecation have been a continuous process. We are committed to maintaining the ODF tag”
Kisan Thorve, a Taloja resident, said, “There are few slum pockets, which are still prone to open defecation, where PCMC should provide more public toilets.”
