Panvel RTO claims that the Kharghar auto strike illegal

The auto strike in Kharghar that has vexed many commuters in the past week has been declared illegal by the Panvel RTO.

“It is illegal for the auto drivers to go on a sudden strike without even intimating us. We did not receive any strike notice from any auto union.”
– Panvel RTO head, L Darade

This strike happened shortly after the unpleasant clashes between the Kharghar and Panvel auto groups over territorial limits which lead to 15 auto drivers from two unions getting arrested.

Darade said that the city traffic police are already working on solving the issues between various auto unions. Even the RTO officials are being involved.

He has also assured that the strike will end on Wednesday and the auto services in Kharghar and nearby areas will be fully regularized.

However, the RTO officials want severe action to be taken against these aberrant auto drivers who according to locals’ complaints still continue their misbehavior after such causeless drives.

“Stranded people at Kharghar station are begging for lifts from private vehicles, as the auto strike continues. Radio cabs must be introduced here too so that locals are not harassed,” said a commuter.
