Year after year, Mumbai and Navi Mumbai grind to a standstill, as relentless rains, storms and flooding plague the city. Offices are shut down, homes are submerged, and transport comes to a halt, as people wade and swim through shoulder-high, muddy, polluted water for hours on end to get home.
This annual occurrence is now something citizens take in their stride, despite the massive inconvenience and sometimes loss of lives it costs the city every year. Despite this, no steps seem forthcoming to take measures to prevent the horrific mishap that has now come to be known as ‘The Mumbai Deluge’.
