Quick answer: Kamshet, near Lonavala on the old Mumbai Pune highway, is the usual place near Navi Mumbai for a tandem paragliding flight. Operators there list joyride tickets from about Rs 2,999 on weekdays to Rs 3,500 on weekends, flights of roughly 10 to 15 minutes, and a season from October to May. Getting to the take-off point is often charged separately, and every flight depends on the wind, so a booking is not a guaranteed flight. Weight and age limits differ from one operator to the next, so check them for the operator you choose.
Prices and terms come from three operators’ own websites and change often. We have not flown with any of them for this guide. Confirm your date, price and refund terms with the operator before you pay. This guide is independent and is not run by any operator. Prices checked: 7 November 2026.
Where Kamshet is and how to get there from Navi Mumbai
Kamshet is about 102 km from South Mumbai by the Mumbai Pune Expressway, according to one operator, who gives 2.5 to 3 hours and says it is faster from Navi Mumbai, Thane or Panvel (Sunrise Paragliding). Its route is to leave the expressway at Lonavala and follow the old Mumbai Pune highway about 16 km east to Kamshet. Another operator gives 110 km from Mumbai, 45 km from Pune and 18 km from Lonavala (Paragliding at Kamshet).
- By road: use the operator’s reporting point as your destination, not just “Kamshet”. Temple Pilots says the meeting point is on the old Mumbai Pune highway and that the meeting time and point are sent a day before (Temple Pilots). Sunrise lists its office near Hotel Rangoli, Kamshet.
- By train: Sunrise suggests a Pune-bound train to Lonavala and then a Pune Lonavala local two stops to Kamshet, followed by a short auto ride to its meeting point. Check train services from Panvel or the Mumbai terminal you use on a live rail app. Our Mumbai local train guide covers the local network in Navi Mumbai.
- Time of day: morning slots are common. Sunrise lists a reporting time of about 7 am for winter mornings and a 2:30 pm slot from March to May, so a day trip from Navi Mumbai means an early start.
What operators charge
Prices below are what each operator lists on its own site, for tandem flights with a pilot. The three styles are a plain joyride, an instructional flight where you handle some of the controls with the pilot, and an acro flight with sharper turns.
| Operator | Joyride | Instructional | Acro | Flight time |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Temple Pilots | Rs 3,000 (Rs 3,500 on weekends) | Rs 3,999 | Rs 5,999 | 10 to 15 minutes |
| Paragliding at Kamshet | Rs 2,999 (Rs 3,500 on weekends) | Rs 3,950 | Rs 4,499 | 10 to 15 minutes |
| Sunrise Paragliding | Rs 2,999 (Rs 3,500 on weekends) | Rs 3,950 (Rs 3,999 on weekends) | Rs 4,500 | 8 to 10 minutes for the joyride, 10 to 15 for the others |
Two people on a weekend joyride at Rs 3,500 each come to Rs 7,000 before take-off transport, photos and your own travel. Those extras are priced differently by each operator.
Extras to ask about before you pay
- Getting to take-off: Temple Pilots lists shared forest site transport as extra and does not state the amount. Paragliding at Kamshet says the shared jeep is extra, about 20 minutes to a parking area on the hill and then a flat walk of about 10 minutes, and that some sites such as Shelar hill cannot be reached by vehicle. Sunrise says a 4×4 jeep takes your group up and the Rs 600 one-way fare is split between everyone in the jeep.
- Photos and video: Temple Pilots lists photo and video at Rs 500 extra. Sunrise’s page mentions GoPro photos. Ask whether they are included in your ticket.
- Take-off site: operators name Tower Hill (east and west), Shelar hill and Pawna hill. The site used on the day depends on the wind, according to Temple Pilots.
Season and weather
Operators list October to May. Paragliding at Kamshet gives mid October to the last week of May. Sunrise says June to September is closed because rain and gusty winds make launching unsafe, and that the wind decides whether flights go in the morning or afternoon. Temple Pilots calls paragliding a weather dependent sport where last minute reschedules or cancellations are beyond its control. In practice, plan a flexible day and ask the operator how it handles a no-fly day.
Weight, age and health limits differ by operator
| Operator | What it publishes |
|---|---|
| Temple Pilots | Maximum body weight 95 kg, with flying for anyone heavier decided at the site by wind conditions. Children above 6 can fly, with age and weight given at booking. Heart ailments and epilepsy are listed as reasons not to fly |
| Paragliding at Kamshet | Ages above 5 up to 85. Weight between 15 kg and 105 kg |
| Sunrise Paragliding | No weight or age limit is stated on the pages we read |
Because the limits are different, tell the operator your age and weight when you book rather than assuming you qualify. Temple Pilots also asks guests to wear a T-shirt, shorts, track pants or jeans, shoes rather than chappals, and a cap, and not to wear sarees or skirts.
Refunds and cancellations
- Paragliding at Kamshet says it refunds 100 percent of the booking amount if a flight is cancelled for unfavourable weather. It gives 100 percent refunds for cancellations made 12 hours before the flight in one place and 24 hours before in another, so ask which applies.
- Temple Pilots says guests who appear intoxicated may be refused a flight with no refund. The pages we read do not state a general refund policy or whether an advance is needed.
- Sunrise states a weather policy but not a refund policy on the pages we read.
Get the refund and rescheduling terms in writing, for example on WhatsApp, before you pay, especially if you are travelling from Navi Mumbai for one fixed day.
Safety checks you can make
Paragliding carries real risk, so ask the operator for details instead of relying on a brochure. A safety guidelines document published by the Maharashtra Adventure Council, which is marked as a draft, describes the sort of things to look for. It says tandem pilots should be over 18 and hold an advanced rating such as IPPI 5 or equivalent, with first aid training. It lists certified equipment, a reserve parachute, helmets for pilot and passenger, no flying under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and flying in clear conditions only.
- Ask which certification your tandem pilot holds and how many tandem flights they have flown.
- Ask whether you will get a helmet, a certified harness and a reserve parachute.
- Ask who decides whether the wind is safe to fly, and what happens if it is not.
- Do not fly after drinking.
Before you go
- Pick your operator and the flight style, and check the current price for your date.
- Ask about transport to take-off, photos, weight and age limits, and refunds in one message.
- Get the reporting point and time, and plan the drive or train to arrive early.
- Dress for the wind in closed shoes and carry water and your ID.
- Keep the rest of the day flexible in case flights are delayed by wind.
