Quick answer: flying from Mumbai (BOM)? Digi Yatra’s international trial lists three direct IndiGo departures: 6E 1311 to Phuket, 6E 1059 to Bangkok and 6E 1141 to Malé. It is scheduled from 1 November to 31 December 2026 for eligible Indian citizens with a chip-enabled e-passport. Create your e-passport credential, then add and share your boarding pass in the app. Carry your physical passport and complete airline checks and immigration as usual. Navi Mumbai Airport (NMI) is not on the trial list.

This guide follows the Ministry of Civil Aviation’s release of 1 November 2026 and the Digi Yatra Foundation’s trial page. It is a trial, and routes and rules may change, so check the Foundation’s page and your airline before you travel. This guide is independent and is not affiliated with the Digi Yatra Foundation or any airline. Last checked: 7 November 2026.

Is your flight from Mumbai included?

Foundation flight list checked 7 November 2026. These are the three Mumbai departures on the Foundation’s official eligible-route list:

From Mumbai (BOM) Airline Eligible flight
Phuket (HKT) IndiGo 6E 1311
Bangkok (BKK) IndiGo 6E 1059
Malé (MLE) IndiGo 6E 1141

Two points to keep straight. Navi Mumbai (NMI) is not listed for this international trial. Air India takes part nationally, but its only listed flight is Bengaluru to London, not a Mumbai departure. The trial covers direct international departures that start at a participating airport. Arrivals, transit and transfer journeys are not eligible, so an inbound Bangkok to Mumbai flight does not qualify just because the outbound Mumbai to Bangkok flight is listed.

All flights on the trial list

Airline From To Flight
IndiGo Mumbai Phuket 6E 1311
IndiGo Mumbai Bangkok 6E 1059
IndiGo Mumbai Malé 6E 1141
IndiGo Delhi Bangkok 6E 1053
IndiGo Delhi Phuket 6E 1081
IndiGo Chennai Colombo 6E 1179
IndiGo Chennai Dubai 6E 1471
IndiGo Bengaluru Malé 6E 1127
IndiGo Bengaluru Kuala Lumpur 6E 1037
IndiGo Cochin Malé 6E 1133
IndiGo Hyderabad Doha 6E 1315
IndiGo Hyderabad Kuwait City 6E 1233
IndiGo Amritsar Sharjah 6E 1427
Air India Bengaluru London Heathrow AI 133

Check that your own flight number is on the list before you spend time on setup. A flight to the same city on a different flight number may not be included.

What the international trial is

Digi Yatra already works on domestic flights. On 1 November 2026 the Ministry of Civil Aviation announced a trial for international passengers, scheduled for November and December 2026, at seven airports: Delhi, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Cochin, Mumbai, Chennai and Amritsar. The ministry says feedback from the trial will inform planning for a wider rollout in 2027. Taking part is voluntary: if you do not use it, the regular airport process applies.

Who can use it

  • Indian citizens with a valid, chip-enabled e-passport that the Digi Yatra app can read using NFC. The passport normally carries a chip symbol on the front cover. An Indian citizen who lives abroad can qualify if they hold such a passport.
  • An eligible direct international departure from a participating airport on a participating airline.
  • A phone with NFC and the Digi Yatra app, version 4.3.0 or above, from the App Store or Google Play.
  • Your consent in the app.

Foreign passport holders cannot take part. The Foundation says the trial is only for Indian passengers with a valid chip-enabled e-passport, so a Canadian, British or US passport holder travelling with an OCI card does not qualify. Where the “Add Minor’s Credentials” feature is available, an adult can create and manage a minor’s credential using the minor’s chip-enabled e-passport, and the minor’s journey is handled from the linked adult profile and device.

Already use Digi Yatra with Aadhaar or a driving licence? For this international trial you still need to create the e-passport credential. The Foundation says Aadhaar and driving licence credentials are not used for the international trial journey, and the e-passport credential is for eligible international journeys only. Domestic journeys keep using the existing credentials.

Step 1: create your e-passport credential

The Foundation lists these steps in the app:

  • Update to the latest Digi Yatra app, version 4.3.0 or above.
  • Tap Add Credentials, then the plus sign, and choose E-Passport.
  • Read and accept the consent.
  • Read the instructions for creating the credential.
  • Scan the Machine Readable Zone, which is the two lines of text at the bottom of the passport photo page.
  • Hold your NFC-enabled phone over the passport so the app can read the chip.
  • Check the details the app retrieves from the passport.
  • Take a selfie to verify your identity.
  • Review the final details and confirm. The credential then appears under My Credentials in your Digi Yatra wallet.

Step 2: add your boarding pass and share it with the airport

Creating the credential is not enough. You also add your eligible international boarding pass, after you check in with the airline, and consent to share it with the departure airport.

  • In the app, add your international boarding pass by scanning its QR code or uploading a supported image or PDF.
  • Review the airport consent screen. It shows the participating origin airport and the information requested.
  • Confirm sharing. Your credential and journey details are then sent to the departure airport, subject to successful validation and the airport’s acknowledgement.

Turn on notifications in the app before you share, because status updates only reach you for journeys shared after notifications are on. The boarding pass shows one of three statuses at the bottom right:

Status What it means
Success Digi Yatra shared your journey data and the airport system confirmed receipt. It does not mean your airline document check or immigration is done
Pending The data was shared but the airport has not yet confirmed receipt. Wait a little and check again
Rejected The airport system could not process it. Delete the boarding pass from the app and share it again

My boarding pass says “Not for Boarding”. What do I do?

During the trial, the boarding pass you get after web check-in is a temporary pass, used for terminal entry only. Take your physical passport and the required travel documents to the airline counter for the mandatory document check and collect your final boarding pass. This applies even if you only have cabin baggage. The Foundation says you do not need to scan the final pass into the Digi Yatra app again at that stage.

Where you can use it, and what to expect

The ministry says eligible passengers can use the facility at terminal entry points, security hold areas and boarding gates, wherever the required infrastructure is available. In practice that varies. The Foundation says that during the initial phase some airline or airport journeys may support Digi Yatra only at terminal entry, and that boarding-gate availability should not be assumed just because Digi Yatra worked at terminal entry. If a step is not available, use the regular lane and allow your normal time at the airport.

What you still have to do

Digi Yatra complements existing travel processes and does not replace them. Carry your physical e-passport and the documents your destination requires, such as a visa. Complete the airline’s document checks, security screening and immigration. The Foundation says immigration and border control are outside the scope of the trial.

Your data

The Digi Yatra Foundation says your credential and boarding pass stay in the Digi Yatra wallet on your phone and under your control, and that Digi Yatra does not keep a central store of personal data or facial biometrics. With your consent, the information needed to validate your journey is shared with the departure airport, which must delete it within 24 hours of the scheduled departure time. That deletion applies to the data shared with the airport. It does not remove the credential from your phone: you can delete the e-passport credential, or revoke consent for a journey, in the app. The Foundation adds that not every airport may send a deletion acknowledgement back to the app during the initial phase, and that a missing acknowledgement does not mean the data was not deleted.

If it does not work

The Foundation’s advice is to follow the usual manual process. Questions about the trial can go to dy-ipt@digiyatrafoundation.com.

Mumbai and Navi Mumbai

The trial covers Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (BOM), not Navi Mumbai airport (NMI). Checking which airport your ticket names? See our Navi Mumbai airport vs Mumbai airport comparison. Some international flights from Mumbai are expected to move to Navi Mumbai from 2027. That is a separate story from today’s eligibility. See our guide to flight changes between Mumbai and Navi Mumbai airports.

After 31 December 2026

The ministry describes 2027 as planning for a wider rollout, based on feedback from the trial, not as a confirmed launch. This page will be updated when the Ministry of Civil Aviation or the Foundation announces what happens after the scheduled trial period.

Frequently Asked Questions

When is the Digi Yatra international trial?

From 1 November to 31 December 2026, according to the Digi Yatra Foundation. The Ministry of Civil Aviation says it runs from November to December 2026.

Which Mumbai flights are in the trial?

The Foundation lists three IndiGo flights from Mumbai: to Phuket (6E 1311), Bangkok (6E 1059) and Malé (6E 1141).

Which airports are included?

Delhi, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Cochin, Mumbai, Chennai and Amritsar. Navi Mumbai is not included.

Who can use it?

Indian citizens with a valid chip-enabled e-passport, on an eligible direct international departure from a participating airport.

Can OCI cardholders or foreign passport holders use it?

No. The Foundation says the trial is only for Indian passengers with a valid chip-enabled e-passport, so someone travelling on a Canadian, British or US passport with OCI does not qualify.

Is setting up the e-passport credential enough?

No. After you check in with the airline, you also add your international boarding pass in the app and consent to share it with the departure airport.

My boarding pass says Not for Boarding. Is that a problem?

No. It is the temporary pass issued after web check-in and is for terminal entry only. Complete the airline’s document check at the counter and collect your final boarding pass.

Does the return or connecting flight qualify?

No. The trial covers direct international departures from participating airports. Arrivals, transit and transfer journeys are not eligible.

Do I still need my passport and to go through immigration?

Yes. Digi Yatra complements existing processes. You still carry your passport, complete airline checks and go through immigration.

What if Digi Yatra does not work at the airport?

Follow the usual manual process.
