Examination bodies and online only classes

An examination body is not the same as a class. The Akhil Bharatiya Gandharva Mahavidyalaya Mandal says on its site that its main Sangeet Vidyalaya is in Vashi, with nearly 1,200 affiliated institutions, nearly 800 exam centres and examinations from the beginner level to Sangeet Acharya. Its courses page lists vocal and instruments, tabla and pakhawaj, Kathak, Bharatanatyam and Odissi. Its Vashi office is at Gandharva Niketan, Plot 5, Sector 9A, Vashi 400703, with the phone numbers +91 86574 04921 to 23 and the email vashioffice@abgmvm.org. The site does not say whether the Vidyalaya has regular classes open to new students, so ask the Vashi office before assuming it does.

Shri Swami Samarth Sangeet Vidyalaya, headquartered in Kharghar, teaches guitar, tabla, vocal, piano, flute and ukulele, and its Navi Mumbai page says it conducts live online classes on Google Meet. That is online tuition and not a local classroom, so it is listed here for families who want online lessons. Its phone is +91 93209 40383.

Before you enrol

  • Ask for a trial or demo class. FEDA invites a demo, and for the others ask whether a trial is possible.
  • Check that the batch matches your child’s age and level, and confirm the teacher and the venue.
  • Ask for the total fee in writing, including registration, instruments or costume, exam fees and any show charges.
  • Ask whether classes run in person, online or both, and what happens to missed sessions.
  • If you want an exam certificate, ask which board or syllabus the class prepares for.
  • Check the route and timing from home, since the classes above are spread across Seawoods, Nerul, Vashi, Sanpada, Kamothe and Ulwe.
