Nerul, Navi Mumbai: Area Guide

City Guide & Travel

Nerul is an area of central Navi Mumbai between Sanpada and CBD Belapur. Seawoods is not a separate entry on CIDCO’s nodal-plan index. It is a station name and a neighbourhood within the Nerul node. The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) looks after Nerul as its B ward, CIDCO planned it as the Nerul node, and Central Railway lists Nerul and Seawoodsdarave stations on the Harbour line. For outings, see places to visit in Nerul, Seawoods and Belapur.

Quick answer: NMMC’s ward-office page (in Marathi) lists B ward Nerul with an office in Kukshet, Sector 14. CIDCO’s nodal-plan index lists Nerul as node 6 of 13 and has no entry for Seawoods, while CIDCO’s Nerul node plan marks a Seawoods-Darave station complex inside the node. Your current property-tax bill identifies the billing authority. Water supply, building permissions, CIDCO lease matters and revenue records may require separate checks.

Who runs Nerul, and how the nodal plan treats Seawoods

NMMC’s history page (in Marathi) says CIDCO developed the CBD Belapur, Nerul, Vashi, Sanpada, Koparkhairane, Ghansoli and Airoli nodes. It says NMMC was set up on 1 January 1992 and that CIDCO’s nodes were handed over to it in stages from 1 January 1998. CIDCO’s development plan page (also in Marathi) lists Nerul among seven northern towns and says the north now has a municipal corporation (NMMC) and the south has Panvel Municipal Corporation. Nerul is therefore NMMC territory. For the wider city, see what is Navi Mumbai and the areas in Navi Mumbai guide.

CIDCO’s nodal-plan index lists 13 nodes, and a plan PDF sits against each. Seawoods is not one of them. The plan for the Nerul node does show it. It labels the “Seawoods-Darave Rly Stn Complex” and a “Prop. Integrated Complex of Seawoods Station” in the middle of the node, and it names Darave, Karave, Sarsole and Shiravane as places inside the boundary. So treat Seawoods as an address and station name within Nerul, not a separate node or ward.

NMMC runs eight ward offices. Its ward page lists B Nerul and A Belapur, with C Vashi, D Turbhe, E Koparkhairane, F Ghansoli, G Airoli and H Digha. It does not say which ward serves a Seawoods address, or which streets each ward covers. If your address is near the Nerul and Belapur boundary, phone a ward office to confirm.

Trains to Nerul and Seawoods

The Harbour line

Central Railway’s Mumbai Suburban time-table page links the Harbour line timetable for Mumbai CSMT, Goregaon and Panvel, shown as effective 1 May 2026 in a down file and an up file. The down file lists these stations in order: Vashi, Sanpada, Juinagar, Nerul, Seawoods Darave Karave, Belapur CBD, Kharghar. The up file lists them in the reverse order. The station list on Central Railway’s station categories page writes the names Nerul (NEU), Seawoodsdarave (SWDV), Belapur (BEPR) and Juinagar (JNJ). The spelling differs between pages, so try the station code if a journey planner does not find the name. The Mumbai local train guide explains the lines and where to find live updates.

The Trans-Harbour line from Thane

The Trans-Harbour timetable on that page is for Thane to Vashi and Panvel and is shown as effective 13 January 2024, so check the landing page for a newer edition. In it, some Thane trains show times as far as Nerul and no times after it. Others carry on through Seawoods Darave Karave and Belapur CBD to Panvel. The Thane to Vashi trains show no Nerul time. Check the stops of your own train.

The Port Line towards Uran

Nerul and Belapur are alternative starting points for the Port Line, not one through service. Central Railway’s Port Line timetable, shown as effective 15 December 2025, is headed Nerul/Belapur to Uran and Uran to Nerul/Belapur. Some trains in the file start at Nerul and call at Seawoods Darave Karave. Others start at Belapur. A train that starts at Nerul shows a time at Seawoods Darave Karave and none at Belapur, and a train that starts at Belapur shows a time at Belapur and none at Nerul or Seawoods. CIDCO’s 2026-27 budget statement calls the route the Nerul/Belapur-Seawoods-Uran Rail Corridor. For the Uran end, see the Dronagiri area guide.

Starting point What the timetables show What to check
Nerul to Uran Port Line trains that start at Nerul and call at Seawoods Darave Karave Read the start station in the Port Line file before you go to a platform
Belapur to Uran A separate set of Port Line trains that start at Belapur Whether you need to reach Belapur first
Thane to Nerul Trans-Harbour trains from Thane, some ending at Nerul and some continuing to Panvel Your train’s last station and its stops
Station to your building Not given in any timetable Test the last leg yourself at your travel hour

Metro, buses and roads

Metro. CIDCO’s budget statement says Navi Mumbai Metro Line 1, from CBD Belapur to Pendhar, has 11 stations and has been open to the public since 17 November 2023. That line starts at Belapur and runs away from Nerul, so neither Nerul nor Seawoods sits on it. CIDCO’s Nerul node plan labels a proposed CST-Panvel metro line along Palm Beach Road, which is a plan label and not an operating service. The Navi Mumbai Metro route map guide keeps operating lines and proposals apart.

Buses. NMMT runs the buses in Navi Mumbai. Route numbers and fares change, so use the NMMT bus routes guide and ask the operator about stops near your building.

Road What CIDCO’s plan shows Check
Sion Panvel Expressway Labelled along the eastern edge of the node, with the MIDC area on its far side A live map for your hour of travel
Palm Marg The creek-side road on the western side, which CIDCO’s Belapur plan labels Palm Beach Marg Whether any section near you is under works
Kharghar-Belapur-Nerul Coastal Road CIDCO’s budget statement describes it as a road project that would give an alternative to the Sion-Panvel road, pending final CRZ and forest clearances CIDCO, before you rely on it as a route
Atal Setu and tolls Not part of the node plan The Atal Setu toll guide and the toll plazas guide

Nerul Node, Nerul East and Nerul West

“Nerul Node” is CIDCO’s planning name. Everyday addresses add more labels. Property listings often split the area into Nerul East and Nerul West along the railway line. NMMC’s ward page and CIDCO’s plan do not use those two labels. They find things by sector number and plot number, so copy the sector and plot from your lease, tax bill or society papers when you fill in a form.

This table lists what CIDCO’s Nerul node plan marks. Treat it as a guide to the layout, since the plan’s own notes say it is not a legal document and that plot, sector and nodal boundaries are subject to change.

Feature What the plan marks Confirm with
Railway The railway runs north to south through the node, with a Nerul station complex near the middle and the Seawoods-Darave station complex south of it Central Railway, for services
West side Palm Marg, the holding pond and the creek, with a mangrove strip marked as transferred to the Forest Department CIDCO or the Forest Department, for access
East side The Sion Panvel Expressway, with MIDC area beyond the node boundary NMMC or MIDC, for services
Villages and sectors Sarsole, Shiravane, Kukshet (Sector 14), Darave and Karave, with numbered sectors Your lease or tax bill
Neighbours Sanpada to the north and CBD Belapur to the south The Sanpada area guide, and the Belapur plan

Do not enter mangroves, fenced land or protected areas without permission. Use established public routes and follow posted restrictions.
