Quick answer: on 25 October 2026, IndiGo and Adani Airport Holdings announced that IndiGo will start international operations from Navi Mumbai airport in February 2027, with a phased network of 12 destinations by July 2027. Does your booking say BOM or NMI? BOM is Mumbai airport and NMI is Navi Mumbai airport. Open IndiGo’s Manage Booking with your PNR and check the airport on each leg. If a family member is arranging your pickup, send them the arrival airport code and the flight number, not just “Mumbai airport”.
This is an independent guide based on announcements and press reports, not an airline notice. Schedules, routes and approvals can change, so confirm everything with your airline and the airport operators. This guide is not affiliated with IndiGo, Adani Airport Holdings or any airport.
What was announced
| What was announced | What it means for passengers |
|---|---|
| February 2027 | IndiGo’s planned start month for international operations from Navi Mumbai. It is not the confirmed start month for every destination |
| 12 daily departures to transfer | The announcement covers existing Mumbai services to 11 named destinations. Twelve departures does not mean twelve existing routes |
| One new daily Kathmandu service | Kathmandu is a planned addition, separate from the transferred services |
| 12 planned destinations between February and July 2027 | This is the phased network plan. The release does not give a first flight date or flight number for each route |
The joint release also says IndiGo intends to continue expanding internationally at Mumbai’s existing airport, so this is not a move of IndiGo’s entire international operation out of Mumbai. Domestic connections that feed the transferred flights also move to Navi Mumbai. Final dates for the transition and the new services will be announced after operating approvals (see the Adani release). Press reports carry the same plan (see the Deccan Chronicle report and the Skift report).
Destinations named in the announcement
| Destination group | Named services | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Saudi Arabia | Riyadh, Dammam, Jeddah, Madinah | Planned transfer from BOM |
| UAE | Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah | Planned transfer from BOM |
| Other Gulf destinations | Bahrain, Kuwait, Muscat | Planned transfer from BOM |
| Bangladesh and Indonesia | Dhaka, Jakarta | Planned transfer from BOM |
| Nepal | Kathmandu | Planned new daily service |
The UAE destinations named in IndiGo’s announcement are Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah. Dubai and Abu Dhabi are not on this particular transfer list.
This page uses three labels. A route is announced when it is named in the airline’s plans, available to book once a specific travel date shows a flight from NMI on IndiGo, and operating once the airline or the airport confirms service. All routes above are currently at the announced stage.
Check your booking
Existing tickets
The announcement alone does not tell you whether your flight has moved. Open IndiGo Manage Booking with your PNR and check the airport on each leg. BOM is Mumbai and NMI is Navi Mumbai. If an airline message and your itinerary show different airports, contact IndiGo before you arrange your transfer. See the Navi Mumbai airport vs Mumbai airport comparison for how the two airports compare.
New bookings
Search your travel date on IndiGo and check that the flight offered departs from NMI. A destination in the announcement is not evidence that a particular nonstop flight is already on sale.
Refunds and changes
IndiGo shows a Plan B option on eligible bookings, so check Manage Booking. Do not assume a refund simply because a route appears on the transfer list. No official statement was found on refunds for an airport change as such, so read the airline’s notice and contact IndiGo. IndiGo’s conditions of carriage describe its obligations (see the conditions of carriage).
Connections between the two airports
The two airports are roughly 45 km apart. If your itinerary uses both, leave plenty of time and see the Mumbai airport to Navi Mumbai airport transfer guide. Compare the final fare and fee breakdown for your travel date, along with the cost of reaching the airport.
Other airlines and the airport’s first international flight
- Air India Group and Adani Airports have announced a separate plan from IndiGo’s (see the joint release of 25 October 2026). It distinguishes planned Kuwait services from existing Oman services, with January 2027 as the start of those Air India Express moves. Do not confuse those January plans with IndiGo’s February plan.
- February 2027 is IndiGo’s planned international start at NMI, not the airport’s first international flight. Air India Express flight IX207 departed for Abu Dhabi on 15 July 2026 (see the Free Press Journal report).
Other airlines and the March 2027 proposal
Reports of 4 and 5 November 2026, based on unnamed sources, say foreign airlines operating from Mumbai airport have recommended moving services on 14 international routes to Navi Mumbai airport from 28 March 2027, the start of the IATA summer schedule, while Terminal 1 is rebuilt. Mumbai airport would temporarily suspend slots on those routes, and affected airlines could fly them from Navi Mumbai instead. The reports name Bahrain, Dammam, Dhaka, Doha, Fujairah, Jakarta, Jeddah, Kathmandu, Kuwait City, Medina, Muscat, Ras Al Khaimah, Riyadh and Sharjah, and say IndiGo, Air India Group and Akasa have already agreed to shift. This is a proposal and not a final decision, and no airline schedule or approval has been published for it. If you hold a ticket on one of those routes for after March 2027, check the departure airport on your booking and in the airline’s messages. Demolition of the first phase of Terminal 1 is reported for April 2027.
Why Mumbai airport is moving flights
The joint release links the transition to redevelopment at Terminal 1 of Mumbai airport, which is targeted for completion by 2030. It does not identify an individual passenger’s terminal or transfer date.
If your ticket says NMI
No metro reaches Navi Mumbai airport yet. Buses, taxis and app based cabs serve it (see the report on the ground transport plan), and timetables and fares change, so check each operator before you travel. See the guide to reaching Navi Mumbai airport and the nearest railway station guide. Before you rely on any shuttle between airports, check its operator, eligibility, pickup point and timetable. For international arrival and departure facilities, see the airport’s passenger guide and the Navi Mumbai international airport guide.
Before you travel: a checklist
| Check | What to confirm |
|---|---|

| Transfer time | How you will reach the airport, and how long it takes at that time of day |
| Connecting flights | Whether your connection uses the same airport |
| Documents | Passport, visa and any airline requirements |
| Fees and refunds | The fare and fee breakdown for your travel date, and the airline’s options if your flight changes airports |
If you have a long gap between flights, see the Swirl Transit Hotel guide for the airport hotel in Terminal 1.
