MahaDBT, also called the Aaple Sarkar DBT portal, is the Government of Maharashtra’s portal for direct benefit transfer schemes. It is not one scholarship with a single set of rules. It hosts many schemes from different departments, and each has its own eligible students, income ceiling, documents and payment amount. This guide helps you find the right scheme, keep the right documents, understand renewal and work out what to do when an application is returned, rejected or unpaid.
Scheme rules, dates and portal addresses change by academic year. The scheme page and the notice for your year on the portal are the final word. This is an independent guide and is not run by the Government of Maharashtra. The portal does not charge a fee to apply.
Which portal and which year
| Application | Direction |
|---|---|
| Fresh or renewal application for 2026-27 | Apply on the officially designated MahaDBT 2.0 portal. Use the address shown on the MahaDBT portal and its notices. |
| Earlier-year pending or returned application | Follow the notice that applies to that academic year. Some earlier-year applications are directed to the older portal. |
| Closing date | Check the notice for your scheme and year on the portal. This guide does not give a last date, because it varies by scheme and year. |
Be careful with sites that show old deadlines from earlier years. If a page names a date, check which academic year and scheme it belongs to.
Find the scheme that fits you
The portal groups its student schemes by department. Similar names do not mean identical rules, so open the scheme page and read the eligibility and the conditions before you apply.
| Type of benefit | Examples of scheme names on the portal | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Post matric scholarship | Government of India Post-Matric Scholarship; Post Matric Scholarship to VJNT, OBC and SBC students | Category, course, income ceiling, residence and attendance conditions. |
| Tuition and examination fee | Post-Matric Tuition Fee and Examination Fee (Freeship); Tuition and Examination Fees to VJNT, OBC and SBC students | Whether it covers the fee you pay and the colleges it applies to. |
| Maintenance or hostel allowance | Maintenance Allowance for professional courses; Dr. Panjabrao Deshmukh Hostel Maintenance Allowance | Hostel or living conditions and the courses covered. |
| Merit scholarship | Rajarshri Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj Merit Scholarship | Marks, category and the classes it covers. |
| Fee reimbursement | Rajarshri Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj Fee Reimbursement Scheme (Medical Education and Research); EBC fee scheme | Course type, income ceiling and the institutions covered. |
For each scheme, note the department, who is eligible, the income ceiling, the benefit, any extra conditions and the academic year before you decide. Do not assume a figure you saw for one scheme applies to another. Eligibility is never decided by income alone. Living in Navi Mumbai does not make you eligible for any of these on its own.
The portal also hosts pension, farmer and labour schemes. They are outside the scope of this student guide.
Documents: what you may need
Requirements differ by scheme and by course, so use this as a checklist to read against the scheme page.
| Document group | How to read it |
|---|---|
| Academic records | The marksheet of the qualifying or previous examination for your course. |
| Admission evidence | The current admission or fee documents the scheme asks for. |
| Income evidence | The income certificate or declaration, and the validity period, that the scheme specifies. |
| Category evidence | The caste or category documents that apply to you. See the domicile, caste and income certificate guide, the caste validity certificate guide and the non-creamy layer certificate guide. |
| EWS | Where the scheme covers it. See the EWS certificate guide. |
| Professional courses | The CAP allotment letter or caste validity, where the scheme asks for it. |
| Hostel or gap | Hostel certificate or gap details, only where relevant to your case. |
| Bank details | The account details needed for the payment process that applies to your scheme. |
Aadhaar-related access is needed for authentication in some steps, and a bank account is needed for payment. They are different things, so see the note on payments below. For Aadhaar updates in Navi Mumbai, see the Aadhaar centres guide.
How to apply
Follow the steps and the document limits shown on the 2.0 portal for your scheme. File size and format limits are displayed against each document field, and they change, so follow the limit on screen and not a number from a blog. In general:
- Register or log in on the portal that applies to your academic year.
- Open the schemes that match your category and course, and read the eligibility.
- Fill the application and upload the documents in the formats shown.
- Submit it, and keep the application ID.
- Track the application on the portal. The portal says Granular Application Tracking is live, showing the status at each stage, and that a Citizen Charter lists expected timelines for approval.
Your college’s scholarship desk is the first stage of scrutiny for many schemes. Ask the desk what the college needs from you before the cut-off it sets, because the college may have an earlier internal date than the portal.
Renewal and changed circumstances
Renewal depends on the scheme, your academic progress and any change in course or institution. Check the renewal conditions on the scheme page before you choose between a renewal and a fresh application.
| Your situation | What to check |
|---|---|
| Continuing the same course | Whether the scheme allows renewal and what the portal asks you to confirm. |
| Moving to the next year with a result | Whether you must have passed, and what the scheme says about a failed year or a backlog. |
| Moving to another institution | Whether the scheme lets you carry the benefit, and who must verify the change. |
| Changing course or having a gap | Changing course can affect eligibility itself, and a fresh application does not automatically restore it. Read the scheme’s course-change and gap conditions. |
Status, corrections and payment problems
These are different situations and they need different actions. Start by finding the status on the portal.
| Situation | What to do |
|---|---|
| Returned for correction | Read the objection, correct exactly what was asked, and resubmit by the process the portal shows. |
| Under scrutiny | Find out which stage is pending, whether the institution or the department, and ask the college desk if it is the institution. |
| Rejected | Read the stated reason and use the grievance process that applies to it. |
| Approved but unpaid | Check the disbursement status before assuming a bank problem. |
| Bank transaction failed | Follow the specific error and the bank-resolution instructions. |
Payment delays have several possible causes, including KYC pending, an inactive account and Aadhaar mapping. Missing Aadhaar seeding is one possible cause, not a diagnosis for every delay. The portal links its Guidelines for Aadhaar linking to a bank account, so start there.
India Post Payments Bank option
The portal’s notice describes an India Post Payments Bank (IPPB) account as an option for students who face payment difficulties linked to Aadhaar seeding. Check the actual payment error first. Opening an IPPB account is an option the notice describes, and it is not a requirement, and it does not guarantee release of a pending scholarship.
Help and complaints
The portal lists the helpline 022-49150800. The state’s general Chief Minister helpline, 1800 120 8040, also appears on the older official portal. They have different roles, so use the MahaDBT helpline for the application and the state helpline for complaints that are not resolved. Keep these ready before you call or write:
- The academic year and the scheme name.
- The application ID.
- The current status and any objection or error text.
- The dates you submitted and corrected the application.
- Screenshots, and any grievance reference number you were given.
Never share passwords or OTPs, and do not post full identity documents in public comments.

Sources and a note on accuracy
Checked on 22 October 2026: the official MahaDBT portal, for the scheme names, the Granular Application Tracking and Citizen Charter notices, the helpline and the Aadhaar linking guidelines. Eligibility, income ceilings, documents and dates are set scheme by scheme and year by year, so this guide does not give them as general rules. Confirm them on the scheme page and the notice for your year.
