Christmas and New Year bring services at churches, ticketed events, busier roads and a lot of people travelling at once. This page sets out the dates, gives you the questions to ask before you book, and shows where the official information is published.

Planning status, checked 15 October 2026: this guide covers holiday dates and booking checks. It does not currently provide a verified Christmas service timetable or a confirmed New Year’s Eve event list.

Quick answer: Christmas Day, Friday 25 December 2026, is listed as a public holiday in the Maharashtra government’s notification for 2026. New Year’s Eve is Thursday 31 December, and 1 January 2027 is a Friday. For Mass timings, phone the parish. For arrangements on the roads, read current police notices for your route and date. Emergency numbers are in the safety box below.

Dates to know

Date Occasion Planning relevance
Thursday 24 December 2026 Christmas Eve Confirm the service’s actual date and start time
Friday 25 December 2026 Christmas Day Listed in the Maharashtra government’s Public Holidays, 2026 notification
Thursday 31 December 2026 New Year’s Eve Check event entry times and the journey home
Friday 1 January 2027 New Year’s Day Check the applicable 2027 holiday calendar

Both Fridays can start a weekend, but whether either gives you a three day break depends on your holiday entitlement and your normal working week.

Safety and emergency numbers

  • Emergency: 112
  • Navi Mumbai Police helpline, as published on the police website: 88-28-112-112
  • Arrange a sober driver or your return transport before the evening starts, and never drive after drinking.

Christmas services in Navi Mumbai

Our places of worship guide lists churches area by area, including Roman Catholic parishes of the Archdiocese of Bombay and Syro-Malabar parishes of the Archeparchy of Kalyan. The parish pages generally show regular weekly timings, and the archdiocese itself warns that Mass times can change. Do not treat a regular Sunday timetable as a Christmas timetable. Festive timings are set by each parish, so phone before you travel.

This is a selection of parish contacts and not a complete list of Navi Mumbai churches. The numbers are as published by the parish or the diocese and may change.

Church Area Published contact Festive schedule
Sacred Heart Church (Archdiocese of Bombay) Sector 9A, Vashi 022 27650343 or 022 27651392 Confirm Christmas 2026 timings with the parish
St. Joseph’s Church (Syro-Malabar) Sector 10, Airoli 8108022660 Confirm Christmas 2026 timings with the parish
Little Flower Forane Church (Syro-Malabar) Sector 20, Nerul West 7977383465 Confirm Christmas 2026 timings with the parish

The Archeparchy of Kalyan keeps a list of its parishes. When you phone, ask:

  • Is the service on 24 December or 25 December, and what time does it start? Do not assume a service called Midnight Mass begins at 12:00 am.
  • Are carols or other activities scheduled separately, and when should we arrive?
  • Confirm the language of your chosen service.
  • Is seating limited, and which entrance should visitors use?
  • What access arrangements are there for older visitors or people with limited mobility?
  • If a service ends late, plan your journey home before you set out.

Dining, parties and events: decide what kind of plan you have

Type of plan What to confirm
Christmas lunch or dinner Festive menu, sitting time, final price and dietary arrangements
Ticketed New Year’s Eve event Entry category, inclusions, seating and cancellation terms
Family outing Children’s admission rules, facilities and activity timings
Private celebration Venue scope, supplier responsibilities and applicable permissions

These are planning categories. They are not a list of events that are available.

Check the full date of any listing. A page labelled New Year 2026 may describe the night that welcomed 2026 and not the night of 31 December 2026, and last year’s prices, line ups and photographs do not show what this year’s event will offer. Check the full date, the start and finish times, the address and whether booking is open.

Questions that change the bill

Issue Question to ask
Final price What is the total payable, including disclosed taxes and booking charges?
Ticket category Is admission for an individual, a couple, a group or another defined category?
Seating Is a table or seat included and reserved?
Food and drinks What is included, and during which service hours?
Children Are they admitted, charged separately and required to stay with an adult?
Entry Is there a last entry time or a re-entry restriction?
Organiser cancellation What happens if the organiser cancels, postpones or changes the venue?
Your cancellation What happens if you cannot attend?

A simple way to compare offers: outing cost = tickets or dining package + separately charged items + applicable charges + return transport + accommodation, if needed.

  • Confirm the event’s admission rules and identification requirements separately from any conditions that apply to alcohol service or consumption. The nightlife guide explains how to read a venue’s entry rules.
  • Ask who is responsible for the permissions that apply to this event and whether they cover the planned activities, location and timings. A venue’s general licence does not automatically cover every special event.
  • For a private function, see the party venues guide and the wedding venues guide for booking checks.

For shopping or a meal rather than a ticketed party, see the Inorbit Mall Vashi guide, the Seawoods Grand Central guide and the street food guide. Check festive opening hours, reservations and any separate event charges directly. An ordinary opening schedule does not mean a Christmas market, a decoration programme or extended holiday hours.

Getting home

Check services for the night of 31 December 2026 and, where relevant, the early hours of 1 January 2027. Do not assume special late night trains or extended metro hours will operate. For your own route, work out:

  • Your departure station and direction.
  • The last useful service for the whole journey, including any interchange.
  • How you will travel from the arrival station to your home.
  • A fallback if the planned service is missed, such as a cab or a lift, arranged before you leave.

Official operator pages: Central Railway’s Mumbai suburban timetable page and CIDCO’s Navi Mumbai Metro project information. Our local train guide, Navi Mumbai Metro guide and auto and taxi fares guide explain how each option works, and the airport guide covers airport trips.

Check current police notices for any arrangements that apply to your route and event date. The Navi Mumbai Police website carries press releases and safety notices.

Outings and a long weekend

  • An outdoor outing: confirm access and operating arrangements for the date you plan. The winter planning guide brings the season’s guides together, and the parks and gardens guide lists green spaces.
  • A flamingo trip: confirm sightings and boat availability with the operator. The flamingo watching guide explains how.
  • An overnight break: check holiday booking and cancellation terms. The weekend getaways guide compares destinations.
  • Air quality: check a current reading for your destination, including the station and the update time, and use our air quality guide to understand the result.

A short checklist

  • Church: phone the parish for the date, start time and seating.
  • Event: get the total price, inclusions, age and entry rules and both cancellation terms in writing.
  • Travel: check the last services for your route and plan the last leg before you go out.
  • Safety: save 112 and the helpline, and arrange a sober driver or return transport.
  • Outings: check the weather, access and air quality for your destination.
