Navi Mumbai Metro Line 2 is a planned extension that would take the existing Line 1 from Pendhar on to Terminal 4 of Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA). You cannot travel on it yet. This guide gives the planned route, station count, estimated cost and approval status as CIDCO and the Maharashtra Government state them, explains why the name “Line 2” appears with different meanings in older documents, and tells you what to use today.
Quick answer: CIDCO’s Budget 2026-27 statement (PDF pages 7 and 8) describes Line 2 as a 14.07 km elevated line from Pendhar to NMIA Terminal 4 with 11 stations. The Maharashtra Government announced on 9 June 2026 (release in Marathi) that the Cabinet Committee on Infrastructure approved it together with Line 1A. Line 2 is not open for passenger travel. CIDCO’s budget gives financial-year targets for construction and full operations, and these are planning targets, not an opening date. Operating Line 1, from CBD Belapur to Pendhar, is the only Navi Mumbai Metro line you can ride.

What the official pages say about the route
CIDCO’s budget statement says the 14.07 km elevated Line 2 will connect Pendhar to NMIA Terminal 4 “through 11 strategically located stations”, giving a mass transit link to the airport’s eastern side. It pairs Line 2 with Line 1A, a 3.02 km elevated stretch from CBD Belapur to Sagar Sangam with 2 stations, including an interchange with the proposed Metro Line 8 for access to the airport from the western side. With the 11.10 km of Line 1, the Maharashtra Government release describes a connected corridor of about 28 km from Sagar Sangam to the airport. That figure is for the whole connected corridor, not the length of Line 2.
The release projects about 12 lakh daily passenger benefits in future for the connected metro service. That is not measured Line 2 ridership. CIDCO also says the Kalyan to Taloja Metro Line 12, which MMRDA plans, would have a passenger interchange with this unified line. MMRDA’s Line 12 page lists Amandoot, a Line 1 station, among Line 12’s stops.
Terminal 4 is the endpoint named in the metro proposal. For a flight today, follow the terminal shown on your airline booking and the airport’s current access instructions in the guide to reaching Navi Mumbai Airport.
Are the Line 2 station names confirmed?
CIDCO’s budget statement gives the station count, 11, and the end points. For station names and entrances, check CIDCO’s tender notices and metro pages as they are published, and do not use older phase maps as the station list for this proposal.
Why “Line 2” can mean different stretches
The number has been used for more than one stretch, so read the end points next to it before you rely on a map or a news item.
| Where you see it | What “Line 2” means there |
|---|---|
| CIDCO’s older project page (in Marathi), written for the first phases | The proposed project page lists the scheme in four phases: Phase 2 is Khandeshwar to Taloja MIDC, 7.12 km with 6 stations, Phase 3 is an interlink of phases 1 and 2, 3.87 km with 3 stations, and Phase 4 is Khandeshwar to NMIA, 4.17 km with 1 station. A footnote on the page calls the later phases Metro Lines 2, 3 and 4. Read it as the history of the earlier phased scheme, not as a current passenger map. |
| CIDCO’s Budget 2026-27 statement | Mostly Pendhar to NMIA Terminal 4, 14.07 km. The opening message of the same statement still says Line 2 will connect Khandeshwar to Taloja MIDC. |
| Maharashtra Government release, 9 June 2026 | Pendhar to NMIA Terminal 4, the same stretch as in CIDCO’s budget figures. |
Line 2 in this guide means Pendhar to NMIA Terminal 4. Where CIDCO’s budget describes Line 2 in different ways, this guide uses its detailed expansion section on PDF pages 7 and 8 together with the 9 June 2026 government announcement, and shows the other descriptions as differences between documents instead of joining them into one route. If a page gives different end points, it may be describing an older plan, so confirm with CIDCO.
How Line 2 differs from Line 1
| Line 1 | Line 2 | |
|---|---|---|
| Status | Open to the public since 17 November 2023, per CIDCO’s budget statement. | Cabinet Committee on Infrastructure approval announced on 9 June 2026. Not open for passenger travel. |
| Route | CBD Belapur to Pendhar. | Pendhar to NMIA Terminal 4. |
| Length and stations | 11.10 km, 11 stations and 1 depot. | 14.07 km, 11 stations. |
| Cost | Rs 3,063.63 crore, funded from CIDCO’s own internal accruals per the budget statement. | Rs 4,919 crore at in-principle approval of the project report (a published estimate). |
| Operation | The budget statement names Maha Metro as the operation and maintenance agency. | Check CIDCO’s notices for the operating arrangement. |
Line 1A is the short stretch from CBD Belapur to Sagar Sangam, and it is separate from Line 2. For the Line 1 station list and which areas it serves, read the Navi Mumbai Metro route map guide.
Metro Line 8 is a different project
Metro Line 8 is a separate airport-to-airport project, not an alternative operating service. The 27 January 2026 release says the Cabinet Committee on Infrastructure approved a 35 km link between Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport and NMIA with 20 stations at an expected cost of Rs 22,862 crore. CIDCO’s budget statement says it will implement Line 8. Line 8 and Line 2 would reach the airport from different directions.

What is Navi Mumbai Metro Line 2?
It is a planned 14.07 km elevated extension from Pendhar to Terminal 4 of Navi Mumbai International Airport, with 11 stations, according to CIDCO’s Budget 2026-27 statement. The Maharashtra Government announced Cabinet Committee on Infrastructure approval on 9 June 2026. It is not open for passenger travel.
Where will Navi Mumbai Metro Line 2 run?
From Pendhar, the last station of Line 1, to NMIA Terminal 4. CIDCO says it also gives a connection to the MIDC area. Terminal 4 is the endpoint named in the metro proposal. For a flight today, follow the terminal shown on your airline booking.
Is Navi Mumbai Metro Line 2 open?
No. Line 2 is not open for passenger travel. The only operating line is Line 1, from CBD Belapur to Pendhar, open since 17 November 2023 per CIDCO’s budget statement.
When will Navi Mumbai Metro Line 2 open?
CIDCO’s budget statement gives financial-year targets, not an opening date: construction proposed from FY 2027-28 and full operations by FY 2031-32. Treat them as planning targets and not as a guaranteed opening.
Which authority is responsible for Navi Mumbai Metro Line 2?
CIDCO is the planning agency named in its budget statement. Its Board gave in-principle approval to the project report, and the Maharashtra Government announced Cabinet Committee on Infrastructure approval on 9 June 2026. A construction contractor is named only after a contract is awarded, so check CIDCO’s tender notices.
How much will Navi Mumbai Metro Line 2 cost?
These are published project estimates, not construction spending. CIDCO’s Board approved the project report in principle at Rs 4,919 crore for Line 2 and Rs 655 crore for Line 1A, and the Maharashtra Government release gives Rs 5,575 crore for the two together. The separate figures add up to Rs 5,574 crore, which is Rs 1 crore less than the release’s combined figure.
Are the Navi Mumbai Metro Line 2 station names confirmed?
CIDCO’s budget statement gives the station count, 11, and the end points. For station names and entrances, check CIDCO’s tender notices and metro pages as they are published, and do not use older phase maps as the station list for this proposal.
Is Line 2 the same as the Khandeshwar to Taloja line?
Not in the current plan. CIDCO’s older project page lists Khandeshwar to Taloja MIDC as Phase 2 and calls the later phases Metro Lines 2, 3 and 4 in a footnote. The 9 June 2026 release uses Line 2 for Pendhar to NMIA Terminal 4. Always check the end points named next to the number.
How is Line 2 different from Line 1A and Metro Line 8?
Line 1A is a 3.02 km stretch from CBD Belapur to Sagar Sangam. Metro Line 8 is a separate 35 km Mumbai Metro link between the two airports. Line 2 is the Pendhar to NMIA Terminal 4 stretch.
Can I take a metro to Navi Mumbai Airport today?
No. No metro line reaches the airport yet. Use the guide to reaching Navi Mumbai Airport for the options that run now, and ride Line 1 only for trips between CBD Belapur and Pendhar.
