Illustration of a car ferry crossing a bay at sunrise. It is an illustration, not a photograph.
From Navi Mumbai, compare the direct road journey with a ferry itinerary that includes travel to the departure jetty and onward transport to Alibaug. Mumbai departures offer established operator booking channels. Other listed routes, including Karanja to Rewas and Nerul to Mandwa, need separate confirmation of current operation before you plan around them. Alibaug is the town most people mean, but boats from Mumbai land at Mandwa or Rewas on the Raigad coast, and the last stretch to Alibaug (written Alibag on official pages) is by road or a connecting bus.
Quick answer: from Panvel, Kharghar or Kamothe, the road is the natural start: NHAI’s list of national highways shows National Highway 66 from Panvel through Pen, then National Highway 166A from Vadkhal on NH 66 to Alibag, 29.0 km. From Vashi, Nerul or Belapur, the Mumbai ferry options below require travel to a Mumbai departure terminal. Do not plan around the separately listed Karanja to Rewas or Nerul to Mandwa routes until current operation is confirmed. Maldar Catamarans states on its own page that its Gateway of India ferry ends at Mandwa with a complimentary bus to Alibaug. Check what your booking includes before you rely on onward transport.

By road from Navi Mumbai
NHAI’s list, dated 30 November 2018, shows NH 66 running Panvel, Pen, Negothane, Indapur and on toward Goa, and NH 166A running from Vadkhal on NH 66 to Alibag at 29.0 km. So the road from Navi Mumbai is to reach Panvel, take NH 66 to the Vadkhal junction and turn onto NH 166A. Raigad district’s page adds that the Sion Panvel Expressway connects the district to Mumbai. Use live navigation for the exact turns. The 29.0 km figure is the last stretch only, not the whole trip.
If you cross from south Mumbai, MMRDA’s FAQ says the Atal Setu gives faster connectivity to JNPT port, the Mumbai-Pune Expressway and the Mumbai-Goa Highway. Cycles, two-wheelers and three-wheelers are not allowed on it. Tolls depend on entry and exit points, so see the Atal Setu toll guide and the toll plazas guide. For buses, MSRTC’s bus station contact list gives the Alibag bus station number as 02141 222006 and also lists Vashi, Panvel and Uran. It does not list routes, so check route and timing with MSRTC. The Panvel area guide and the Panvel railway station guide cover the Panvel side.

Use the terminal named on your booking. Bhaucha Dhakka, Ferry Wharf and the M2M terminal are not interchangeable boarding instructions.
Maldar Catamarans from the Gateway of India
Maldar’s own page says its catamaran Ecstasy runs between the Gateway of India and Mandwa, and that the ferry journey is up to Mandwa, after which a complimentary bus ride to Alibaug is provided. It asks passengers to report at Jetty No. 2 at least 45 minutes before departure, and says online bookings for the next day close at 6:00 pm.

M2M Ferries Ro-Pax from Bhaucha Dhakka
Mumbai Port Authority’s Ro-Pax Terminal page (last updated 26 August 2024) says the port created a Ro-Pax terminal near Bhaucha Dhakka for passengers and cars to Mandwa near Alibaug. M2M’s site gives the Mumbai address as M2M Ferries Ro-Pax Terminal, near Ferry Wharf, Bhaucha Dhakka, Princess Dock, Mazgaon, Mumbai 400010, and the Raigad address as Mandwa Ropax Terminal, Mandwa Jetty Road, Mandwa 402201, next to the current Mandwa Jetty.
M2M’s home page carries the lines “Bring your vehicle” and “Sailing all year round”. Vehicle carriage, category and charges depend on the booking you select. The Maritime Board’s directory lists a passenger fare of Rs 440 for Ferry Wharf to Mandwa (M2M), but a booking quote depends on class, travel date, any vehicle and added charges, so use M2M’s booking page for the real total. Check whether your travel date is open for booking. An unavailable date may reflect the booking window, capacity or service arrangements, so confirm with the operator.
Other listed routes: operation not confirmed
The Board’s route directory lists these routes. It is a directory, not a booking system, and it was read on 13 October 2026. The fares below are directory figures, not a current booking quote. Confirm current operation with the Board or the operator before you plan around any of them.
| Status | Route | Directory fare |
|---|---|---|
| Listed, operation not confirmed | New Ferry Wharf to Rewas | Adult Rs 100 |
| Listed, operation not confirmed | Karanja to Rewas | Adult Rs 30, child Rs 15, motorcycle Rs 55 |
| Listed, operation not confirmed | CIDCO PWT (Nerul) to Mandwa | Rs 1,210 |
| Listed, operation not confirmed | New Ferry Wharf to CIDCO PWT (Nerul) | Rs 935 |
Raigad district’s page says Maharashtra State Transport buses run from Rewas to Alibag. Check locally how to reach the Karanja jetty from your part of Navi Mumbai.
Reaching the Mumbai terminals
For M2M at Bhaucha Dhakka. M2M’s travel guide says its Mumbai terminal is a 15 minute walk from Dockyard Road station. Central Railway’s Harbour line timetable (effective 1 May 2026) lists Dockyard Road between Sandhurst Road and Reay Road, and not every Harbour train goes to CSMT. M2M also names BEST bus numbers 44, 46, 48, 50 and 135 to the Mallet Bunder stop, from where the terminal is a 5 minute walk. By road, M2M says that if you come via P D’Mello Road you turn toward Princess Docks and go through the white gates next to the police chowky, and if you come by the Eastern Freeway you take the Yellow Gate exit.
For the Gateway of India. The Dockyard Road directions are for M2M’s terminal, not for the Gateway. Maldar asks passengers to report at Jetty No. 2, near the Swami Vivekanand Statue. Plan the city transfer separately with live navigation, and use the Mumbai local train guide and the NMMT bus routes guide for the Navi Mumbai side. The Navi Mumbai Metro route map guide shows the Metro does not reach a Mumbai jetty.
From Mandwa to Alibaug
| Arrival arrangement | What to establish |
|---|---|
| Ferry ticket with a connecting bus | Whether the bus is included, where it leaves from, where it drops you in Alibaug and the return bus time. Maldar states a complimentary bus to Alibaug. |
| Foot passenger without an included transfer | A separate bus, taxi or auto arrangement from Mandwa. |
| Passenger travelling with a vehicle | Disembarkation at the terminal and your onward road route. |
Maldar’s Alibaug counter is at PNP Nagar, Building No. 2, Office No. 4, ground floor, so ask there where the bus leaves from. Do not assume every ferry includes a bus, or that you must organise a separate auto. For the return, M2M’s guide describes an MSRTC bus from Alibaug to Rewas via the Chondhi route to Mandwa Phata bus stop, then a private auto to the jetty with limited availability. Confirm the last bus and the auto before you book a late return.
Vehicles, pets, reporting times and cancellation
M2M carries vehicles, and drivers need a licence, registration and insurance documents. Boarding can be refused without them. M2M says e-scooters are not permitted on its ferries. Do not read that as a rule about every electric vehicle. Two-wheelers are not allowed on the Atal Setu.
Pets: M2M’s terms say pets are not permitted on the M2M Princess vessel. For other vessels, pets are allowed only in designated pet areas, only for passengers travelling with vehicles or suitable special equipment, with a muzzle and leash, and the pet must be declared at the time of booking and in advance of travel. Maldar permits pets only on the main deck with a full-price ticket, on a leash and wearing a muzzle, and not on its connecting bus.
M2M’s terms say online booking closes 60 minutes before departure, passengers report at least 45 minutes before, check-in closes 15 minutes before and boarding closes 10 minutes before, unless your route says otherwise. M2M asks passengers to carry a valid government photo ID.
Cancellation rules differ. Maldar’s page says tickets are non-refundable if the passenger cancels and refunded only if Maldar cancels the trip. PNP Infra’s terms say tickets cannot be cancelled once purchased. M2M’s terms refund the booking amount less taxes and handling charges if it cancels for weather, Maritime Board orders or technical reasons. If you cancel, the refund depends on how far ahead you do it and on the seat or vehicle category, and a no-show is non-refundable. Keep the operator’s cancellation message.
Monsoon and weather
Mumbai Port Authority’s September 2024 master plan lists the Ro-Pax service to Mandwa as running 365 days and Ferry Wharf services to Elephanta, Mora and Rewas as closed in monsoon. Year-round operation does not guarantee that an individual sailing will run. Weather, technical conditions and authority directions can affect departures. Ask the operator about your date.
Compare road and ferry for your trip
| Cost or time component | Direct road | Ferry itinerary |
|---|---|---|
| Travel to highway or terminal | Record your estimate | Record your estimate |
| Reporting and waiting | Not applicable to private driving | Operator requirement |
| Main journey | Your road estimate | The selected crossing |
| Final transfer | Included in the road route | Bus, auto, taxi or your own vehicle |
| Total cost | Fuel or fare, tolls, parking | Access travel, tickets, vehicle charge, transfer |
| Return constraints | Check your chosen transport | Sailing and connecting bus availability |
Treat this as a worksheet, not a verdict. Neither route is shown here to be the fastest or cheapest for every starting point.
Alibaug itself
Raigad district’s pages are the official source for what is nearby. Its beaches page (last updated 22 January 2025) calls Alibag beach the main beach, a flat stretch with hard, dark sand. Kolaba Fort is off Alibaug. Access depends on tides and current local arrangements, so follow posted restrictions and authorised local guidance, and do not attempt a crossing through rising water. For other trips, see weekend getaways from Navi Mumbai.
Who to contact
Maldar lists the numbers above. M2M lists customer support on its contact page at +91 8291902662, 7.00 am to 9.00 pm, and support@m2mferries.com. The Maritime Board’s emergency page gives an emergency room helpline, 022-69041777, which the Board says works 24 hours for emergencies in the jurisdiction of ports other than the major ports. For a delayed or cancelled sailing, contact the operator first.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which ferry goes to Alibaug?
Ferries from Mumbai land at Mandwa or Rewas and you finish the trip to Alibaug by road or a connecting bus. M2M Ferries runs a Ro-Pax from Bhaucha Dhakka to Mandwa, and Maldar Catamarans and PNP Infra list Gateway of India to Mandwa services.
Where do ferries to Alibaug leave from?

Can I go from Navi Mumbai to Alibaug without a ferry?
Yes, by road. NHAI’s list shows NH 66 from Panvel through Pen and NH 166A from Vadkhal to Alibag, 29.0 km.
How should I compare road and ferry journey times from Navi Mumbai?
Use your exact starting address and destination. For a ferry trip, include travel to the jetty, reporting time, crossing, disembarkation and the onward transfer. Compare that total with the direct road journey.
Does the ferry ticket include a bus to Alibaug?
Maldar states a complimentary bus from Mandwa to Alibaug with its ferry. For M2M and PNP Infra, confirm with the operator what your booking includes.
Is the Alibaug ferry suspended in monsoon?
It depends on the route and operator. Year-round Ro-Pax operation does not establish that every passenger-ferry route runs during monsoon, or that a particular sailing will operate. Check the selected operator and departure date.
Can I take a car or bike on the ferry?
M2M’s Ro-Pax carries vehicles, and drivers need a licence, registration and insurance documents. Availability and charges depend on your booking. E-scooters are not permitted on M2M ferries, and two-wheelers are not allowed on the Atal Setu.
Can I take a pet on the ferry?
It depends on the operator and vessel. M2M does not permit pets on the M2M Princess, and elsewhere allows them only in designated areas for passengers with vehicles, with a muzzle and leash, declared at booking. Maldar allows pets on the main deck with a full-price ticket, a leash and a muzzle, but not on its connecting bus.
What happens if I cancel?
Maldar refunds only if it cancels the trip, and PNP Infra says tickets cannot be cancelled once purchased. For M2M, a refund after a passenger cancellation depends on timing and category, and a no-show is non-refundable.
