Airoli, Navi Mumbai: Area Guide

City Guide & Travel

Airoli is an area at the northern end of Navi Mumbai, on the Thane Creek side facing Mulund. It is governed by the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC), it appears in CIDCO’s nodal plan index, and it has its own railway station on the Trans-Harbour line. For the wider city, see what is Navi Mumbai and the areas in Navi Mumbai guide.

Who runs Airoli: NMMC, CIDCO and the district

NMMC’s history page (in Marathi) says CIDCO developed CBD Belapur, Nerul, Vashi, Sanpada, Koparkhairane, Ghansoli and Airoli. It says NMMC was set up on 1 January 1992 and that, from 1 January 1998, the areas CIDCO had developed were handed over to the corporation in stages. CIDCO’s development plan page (also in Marathi) lists Airoli among its northern group and says the north is now served by NMMC and the south by Panvel Municipal Corporation.

Airoli is therefore NMMC territory. Panvel Municipal Corporation covers Kharghar, Kamothe and Kalamboli, not Airoli. NMMC runs eight ward offices, and its ward office page lists Airoli as the G ward and Digha as the separate H ward, with Ghansoli as F. A ward name is an administrative label, so confirm which office serves your exact address.

For the district, NMMC’s history page says the corporation was formed with 45 villages that had been under gram panchayats of the Thane Zilla Parishad, and the site’s areas in Navi Mumbai guide lists Airoli in Thane district. For a sale deed, land record or court filing, use the district printed on your own documents.

How to get to Airoli

By train

Airoli station is on the Trans-Harbour line, which runs from Thane towards Vashi, Nerul and Panvel. Central Railway’s Mumbai Suburban timetable page is the place to check current timings. It links a Trans-Harbour timetable file, shown there as effective 13 January 2024, which lists Airoli between Digha Gaon and Rabale. Timetables are revised, so use the page for the latest edition.

In practice: pick a Trans-Harbour service that calls at Airoli, confirm its destination and stopping pattern before boarding, and plan the final leg from the station to your employer, ward office or the visitor centre as a separate step. Services end at different stations beyond Turbhe, so the destination matters. The Mumbai local train guide explains the Harbour and Trans-Harbour lines and where to find live updates.

Metro

Airoli is currently served by suburban rail rather than Navi Mumbai Metro Line 1, which runs between Belapur and Pendhar. See the Navi Mumbai Metro route map guide for what operates today.

By bus

NMMT runs the buses in Navi Mumbai. The NMMT bus routes guide covers routes, timings and fares, with a note on where to check the current list. No route numbers or fares are printed here because they change.

By road and to the airport

The Airoli Bridge is the road link between Airoli and Mulund, covered in the next section. For the Navi Mumbai airport, the Navi Mumbai airport guide, the how to reach the airport guide and the nearest railway station guide explain the options.

The Airoli Bridge and the Mumbai entry toll

A Shapoorji Pallonji project page dated 1999 describes a box-girder bridge over Thane Creek connecting Mumbai and Navi Mumbai. Wikipedia says it links Airoli with Mulund and is maintained by the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC). Check MSRDC for anything operational.

Airoli Bridge is one of five Mumbai entry points where MSRDC revised the toll. Free Press Journal reported on 30 September 2026 that revised rates for commercial vehicles apply from 1 October 2026 at five points, which include Airoli Bridge, and that light motor vehicles have been exempt since October 2024. Moneylife reported on 14 October 2024 that the waiver for light motor vehicles started that night. Daijiworld (1 October 2026) says private cars and SUVs remain exempt. The reports give no end date for the exemption, so check the latest MSRDC notification before relying on it.

Commercial rates, the FASTag position and what to do if you are charged wrongly are set out in the site’s toll plazas guide. No toll amounts are printed here. Atal Setu is a different crossing with its own toll, covered in the Atal Setu toll guide.

Airoli to Katai Naka elevated corridor

The Airoli to Katai Naka corridor has several phases. MMRDA’s release of 7 May 2026 (full text in a PDF) describes it this way:

Phase Section Status in the release
Phase I Tunnel and elevated road, Thane-Belapur Road to NH-04 (3.43 km) Nearing completion. Twin tunnel civil works 92% complete.
Phase II Elevated road, Airoli to Thane-Belapur Road (2.57 km) Construction completed. To be commissioned together with Phase I.
Phase III NH-04 to Katai Naka (about 6.71 km, fully elevated) About 10% progress. Completion date given as October 2028.

MMRDA’s project list shows the same October 2028 completion for the Phase III elevated road, with work shown as starting on 11 October 2024. Those dates belong to Phase III, not to the whole corridor. The release says Phases I and II are to be commissioned this year and states no opening date. Check a current MMRDA opening notice before using any new section for route planning. The project list also shows a tender notice dated 7 May 2026 for a separate creek bridge from Kopri to Patni, listed as a separate project.

What Airoli is known for

The site’s IT companies and tech parks guide describes Airoli as a major IT and ITES employment cluster on the Thane Belapur Road corridor, anchored by Airoli Knowledge Park. Capgemini’s locations page lists Capgemini Technology Services India Limited (Airoli SEZ) at IT3 and IT4 (SEZ), Airoli Knowledge Park, Thane Belapur Road. Wipro’s locations page lists a Mumbai Development Center (Airoli) at Plot No. 3, opposite Airoli station.

An office address on a company page does not confirm vacancies, interviews or where you will be asked to report. If a job offer names an Airoli address, confirm the building and reporting location with the employer, and test the route at your actual shift hours.

The other thing Airoli is known for is the creek, where the Maharashtra Mangrove Cell runs a visitor centre.

Services and civic matters

NMMC’s website lists its helplines as 1800 222 309, 1800 222 310 and +91 8291920504 in the page header. Its home page links to services including complaints, feedback, property tax and water tax. Ward-level matters go to the ward office.

Office Address as listed by NMMC Contact as listed
G ward office, Airoli Sector 3, Airoli, Navi Mumbai 400708 amc_airoli_ward@nmmc.gov.in, 8976954887

That row is from NMMC’s ward office page as of 9 October 2026. Contacts can change, and a ward boundary does not always match an area name, so confirm the right office for your address before you visit.

For how-to guides, see the NMMC online services guide, the NMMC property tax guide and the NMMC water bill guide. For schools and healthcare, see best schools in Navi Mumbai and best hospitals in Navi Mumbai, and check the actual route from your building before choosing either.

Living in Airoli

Airoli decisions mostly come down to a few checks. Do not treat a nearby name such as Digha as interchangeable with Airoli, since NMMC lists them as separate wards. Use the full address and test the station entrance and walking route.

Decision What to compare
Office commute The actual campus entrance and your shift time, not just the area name.
Rail access The route from the building to the station, and the last-mile transport at both ends.
Mumbai road commute The bridge approach and congestion on the destination side.
Everyday services Nearby groceries, healthcare and the school journey.
Building Water arrangements, lifts, power backup and maintenance.

For dated property prices and a flat-comparison worksheet, see the Airoli property rates guide. To compare Airoli with other areas by commute, see best areas to live in Navi Mumbai and the cost of living guide.

Coastal and Marine Biodiversity Centre

As of 9 October 2026, the Mangrove Cell’s page for the centre says the Coastal and Marine Biodiversity Centre in Airoli is run by the Maharashtra Mangrove Cell and was inaugurated on 30 April 2017. It is meant to teach visitors about Maharashtra’s coastal and marine biodiversity and the threats to it, using visual, audio and tactile displays. The page lists exhibits of Thane Creek Flamingo Sanctuary biodiversity, recorded sounds of flamingos, kingfishers and dolphins, screens and a 3D panel, and a small theatre that shows documentaries. It also lists boat safaris to see flamingos and other migratory birds.

The Mangrove Cell’s contact page gives the centre’s address as 2, Diva Nagar Marg, Kandalavan, Airoli, Navi Mumbai 400708. The centre page and the contact page both give +91 99876 73737 for centre visits and boat safari enquiries.

Item What the Mangrove Cell pages show
Centre admission Fees displayed on the official page; effective date not stated. Adults Rs 55, school students Rs 30, foreign students Rs 55, foreign adults Rs 110, children under 5 free.
Boat safari Listed on the centre page. Charges, season, tide timings and the booking method are not shown there. The admission fees above are for the centre, not for a boat.
Flamingo season The Thane Creek Flamingo Sanctuary page says flamingos arrive in large numbers in October and November, and mentions a flamingo boat ride. Sightings depend on the season, the tide and the day.
Opening hours and closing days Not shown on the Mangrove Cell page.
Directions and parking Not shown. Use the address above in a current map.

Phone +91 99876 73737 to check fees, hours and boat availability before you travel, and do not assume the centre or a boat is open on a given day. The Ramsar Sites Information Service lists Thane Creek as a Ramsar site with a designation date of 13 April 2022. Private operators also advertise creek boat trips, and the Mangrove Cell number is the official route for enquiries.

Stay on the arranged route. Do not enter mangrove edges, creek banks or restricted land to look for birds. For other outings, see things to do in Navi Mumbai, free things to do and places to visit in Nerul, Seawoods and Belapur, which also points to this centre for flamingo viewing.
